The 2007 baseball season has already undergone a month and many interesting things are happening or have happened thus far. For starters, the Cleveland Indians were forced to cancel a number of their home games during the second week of the season due to snow, and a lot of it. From a weather standpoint it was a very rainy April which caused a number of teams to re-schedule their games which will certainly pose a potential problem down the home stretch when the temperature climbs to 90 degrees. The defending champion Cardinals have not started in the direction they had hoped. When April closed they found themselves already 7 games behind the first place Milwaukee Brewers. Both the Braves and Mets have started out hot and are consistently battling for full reign of first in the National League East. Barry Bonds talk is heating up as he is striding closer and closer to Hank Aaron’s home run record. Bonds had a great April and is all but sure to break the mark in controversial fashion as the season plays out. The American League has had its share of surprised thus far in the young season as well. The Yankees found themselves in the basement of the AL East when April concluded. This sub-par performance has had a lot of people talking around the Yankee clubhouse that Joe Torre’s job is in jeopardy if the Yankees don’t turn it around fast. The Red Sox have been on a role in the month of April. They have taken advantage of the Yankee collapse and look to finally eclipse New York for the division, a hurdle the Sox have not been able to get over since 1995. Elsewhere in the American League, aside from the Royals, Devil Rays, and Orioles each and just about every team still has a chance to be a front runner and be competitive.
