Clemens will dawn the Yankee cap once again
The Rocket released some powerful fuel Sunday during the 7th inning stretch of the Mariners/Yankees game in New York. He told a crowd of about 55,000 that he will be pitching in front of them this season. To much of the surprise to just about everybody around baseball, Roger Clemens made his decision on where he will be pitching in 2007. The surprising part was that he made this information public before he originally intended. The non-surprising part is that he will be pitching in pinstripes. The contract Roger signed will pay him a pro-rated deal of 28million dollars, about 8,000 dollars a pitch, estimated of course for those interested to know.
The way the Yankees season had been unfolding this is a move they had to make, no matter what the cost was. There is no excuse for a team with the highest payroll in the league to not be playing competitive baseball.
Clemens is going to be 45 this season so the Yankees better not expect a stellar season from the aged legend. He is also coming back into the American League where he has not pitched in 3 seasons. Getting accustomed back to the American League may take some time for the rocket.
In the end I don’t think this will be worth the Yankees wile. It may brighten up their spirits and win more games but this will not be the vital piece that brings the 27 championship to New York.
Call it sour grapes, (cause he isn’t coming back to where it all started for him, in Boston) but I honestly don’t think the rocket can do what many expect and hope he will accomplish this season. Regardless, it will be must see T.V. The fun will begin next month.
