Hoosiers
“Hoosiers” is based on the true
story of a small-town Indiana
team that made the state finals
in 1954, this movie shows you
that you need to give someone a
second change. A coach with a
spotty past and out of coaching
for 10 years gets a call from a
long time friend, the principal
of Hickory High in Indiana.
The goal was to take this small
town High school team of
undisciplined players to play
together as a team, but what
happens is something that no one
would expect from a washed up
coach who was banned from
coaching basketball by the NCAA.
Coach Norman Dale must also win
over the approval of a Christian
close-knit town of people who
are used of doing things a
certain way and don’t like
changes. The people of Hickory
become suspicious of the methods
that the coach uses, and also
don’t trust the idea that he
takes on as his assistant the
town drunk.
At on point in the movie there’s
a town meeting to vote on
whether Coach Norman can stay as
coach or to vote him out. This
is a turning point in the movie,
because the team’s best player
(Jimmy) who hadn’t played as of
yet for personal reasons shows
up at the town hall meeting and
said he was ready to play, only
if the coach was to stay. There
was a recount of the vote and
the people voted to keep Coach
Norman.
As the movie continues you learn
that by believing and that by
working together anyone can
achieve the sometimes-impossible
dream. One watching this movie
soon starts cheering for this
group of underdogs and hope that
they make it to the State finals
and win the title.
Coach Norman Dale not only does
take his team to State Finals
and wins the Championship game;
he also wins over the towns
people trust and wins the heart
of the schoolteacher Myra.
If you like cheering for the
underdog and believe in second
changes in life, this movie is
not only a great sports movie
but also a great family movie
that teaches one to never quit
in yourself and in anyone else.
